Skiing nowadays is something completely different than what it used to be a few decades ago. Skiing on piste was pretty much the only option at the time. Then, freeride appeared, with wider skis allowing a better skiability on powder. Pistes slowly got left aside. Then Freestyle entered the game, getting your adrenalin pumping with upside-down airs and switch landings. Pistes were abandonned, old-fashioned, has-been. But Rossignol decided we shouldn't forget the origins of the sport we love, and designed the Pursuit series to give a strong breath of fresh air to our old dusty groomers.
If you've been drooling over the Pusuit 16 Ti Basalt TPX, but you're a little shy in front of the beast, afraid not to be strong enough to handle it, then you may try the 16 Aramid Basalt TPX first. It's a good warm-up before the next level. Same performance, the ski is just slightly more forgiving since there's not titanal in the construction.
What our testers say : Confidence-inspiring and extremely efficient, the Pursuit 16 Aramid Basalt is a bit more forgiving than its bigger brother the 16 Ti Basalt, because it doesn't feature titanal. However, more forgiving doesn't mean less performance. The ski is still powerful and reactive, and will suit best expert level skiers who like to spend most of their time on groomers (70% piste / 30% powder).
TECHNICAL INFO :
A lengthwise split in the metal (or fiber) laminate at tip and tail. Allows torsional flex at the extremities of the ski. Provides smooth turn initiation and improved full-edge contact.
Independant Pressuring System : Optimizes transmission of power applied by boot to ski edges to boost power and grip. Concave profile makes sidewalls higher to apply even greater pressure to edge. Concave shape reduces skis weight by 100g per pair.
Ultra durable construction built with wood cores, 30 degree sidewalls, fiberglass and high-tech laminates. The Mini Cap ROSSITOP to strengthens the top of the ski and is resistant to chipping for increased durability. The sidewalls of the skis are angled at a 30° incline to improve swing weight, reduce the overall weight of the ski, and enhance edging and durability.
The fiberglass structure enhances flex and stiffness, increases resistance to torsion, and improves boosts on turn exits.
The wood provides stability and rebound, eliminates vibrations, and has a great durability.
Aramide stringers woven into basalt fibers provides lighter alternative to metal laminates.
Removes vibrations, providing increased stability and dampness without added weight.
High camber on 90% of the ski length delivering power and grip with an excellent contact feel. The 10% left are rockered and allow easy turn initiations and optimum control.
Skis are more manoeuvrable, contact points on the skis are placed in order to reduce the effective running length, which allows easier pivot and a better float.
A new larger metal binding-to-plate interface increases torsional stiffness which translates to stronger performance and precision. A control beam combined with Twin VAS (Visco Material) that absorbs vibrations, facilitates rebound directing pressure to the extremities. The tool-free binding simply slides on the integrated TPX system for easy adjustment.

Axium bindings are designed for sporty and/or recreational skiers looking for comfort, performance and simplicity. They're reliable, safety and light.
The shape of the heel piece eases the release.
The design of the binding makes it easy to step in.
Composite materials used make the binding lighter.
Suitable for recreational and intermediate skiers weighing from 45 to 110kg.
The TPI2 system allows the binding to slide on the interface for large size adjustments. Toolfree system.

Construction
There are 3 main types of construction
- CAP : The core is wrapped in a cap. This construction brings forgiveness to the ski. It is often featured on entry-of-range piste skis or on wide skis for a great mix between forgiveness and a sturdy core.
- Sandwich : The sandwich construction is a standard in terms of quality. This construction incorporates different layers of materials selected according to their specific properties. It delivers grip and stability, but it's generally more demanding.
- Minicap Sandwich : The perfect compromise for progression, or for technical skiers. This construction offers excellent carving abilities to the ski while providing forgiveness thanks to the Cap tips, allowing for more relaxed skiing. |

Core
The core gives its character to the ski. There are two main types :
- The composite core : This injected core is mainly featured on recreational or intermediate skis. It delivers flexibility, forgiveness and lightweight. It's perfect for learning the basics and progress with soft and comfortable skis.
- The wood core : It has always been used in the ski constructions and ensures great durability. It is sturdy and reactive. There are many kinds of woods used, all delivering different properties.
Cores are reinforced with fibers. The most common one is the fiberglass, well known for its mechanic properties. Other fibers are used, like basalt and aramid, replacing titanal plates. They enhance stiffness and impact absorbtion, and also increase the ski's lightweight. |

Rocker
A rocker is a rising tip, long and progressive, allowing the ski to float better on powder snow. At the same time, it reduces the actual running length of the ski when it sits flat on the ground which enhances the pivot of the ski and makes it easily manoeuvrable.
Rockers are featured on skis tips, and sometimes on tails. That improves the floatation even more, and reduces the running length of the edge for an easier pivot for piste specific skis. |

Ski Camber
Camber defines the favorite playground of the ski and gives it its character. There are three main types of camber:
- the classic camber : it enhances energy transfers towards the edges and has a bias for pistes. It gives the board more kick and increases pop and reactivity.
- the flat camber : it makes the ski pivot easier while providing a good edge grip on your piste runs. It is used for freestyling and riding in the backcountry.
- the reverse camber : perfect for deep powder conditions, it enhances the ski floatation and increases pivot. Fat skis often feature this technology, coupled with a double rocker. |

Type of turns
If the radius of a ski is short (10 to 14m on an adult ski), short and sharp turns will be easier. If the radius is longer, it will perform better on larger turns where it'll be more stable (from 18 to 22m on an adult ski).
The radius can vary according to the pressure you apply on the edge. That's why you cannot define a radius with one sole turn, it just gives you a general idea of the behaviour of the ski. Short radii are often associated with liveliness when long radii are synonyms of stability. |
